Why Water Tanks and Clean Water Are Important

Contaminated water can lead to several health issues, and many families without safe water are at risk. Far too many rural areas do not have any access to plumbing, clean water and sanitation. Water is a precious resource but unfortunately many people remain uneducated about water management.

Approximately half of the tube wells in Bangladesh are contaminated with arsenic because uneducated diggers did not go down to the regulation 100 meters. Bangladeshi government officials were either unaware of depth regulations, or they did not supervise installation correctly. The question is how many people were poisoned in this way?

Despite the fact that arsenic poisoning is not fatal, it can lead to serious internal injury. Arsenic poisoning is a threat all over the world, and mostly due to contaminated water sources. Across 70 countries, some 140 million people have been affected.

These numbers alone prove the necessity of checking the world’s water sources in order to prevent senseless injuries and even deaths. It is important to check plumbing, pipes and reservoirs regularly. Governments of developing countries have spent millions of dollars in related projects.

Although there haven't been any deaths reported in Bangladesh, the government needs to act swiftly to keep this the case. Reports suggest that Bangladesh has already received foreign aid to help fix the problem. It appears that despite this aid, the government has not done much.

There are more serious cases in other parts of the world. In developing countries, children under 5 years old are dying from diarrhea due to unclean water, and made complicated by malnutrition. The combination is lethal, and 90% of deaths from water-related diarrhea are children who don't eat and grow weak.

Statistics suggest that 769 000 children below the age of 5 died from diarrhea in Africa between 2000 and 2003. Shockingly, many of these deaths could have been prevented by placing a clean water tank in the village. In developed countries, there were 700 children under 5 that suffered the same fate from diarrheal disease.

Cleaner water supplies reduce the number of deaths due to diarrhea by as much as 25%. If you store, treat and distribute water correctly, as in developed nations, you can reduce cases of diarrhea by 39%. In an ideal world, all nations would operate in the same way.

It has been revealed that sewage is the leading cause of water contamination, which translates to the consumption of human fecal parasites. If you forgive the pun, this is literally hard to swallow. In a study in 2006, it was confirmed that 1.1 billion people didn't have clean water, and 1.8 billion people died from water-born sickness.

Deaths could be prevented if access to clean water was improved. In these parts of the world, the simple and inexpensive installation of Water Tanks, purifiers and filters could save millions of lives. An efficient water system allows the safe and efficient distribution of potable water to several homes within a community.
